چکیده

This report describes the research work conducted under CALTRANS MOU 288 on fault detection and handling for automated vehicles. The report describes fault detection and handling designs used in the longitudinal control system of platooned automated vehicles. Results are presented on experimental testing of the designs. During the course of the year the project has extended the past work on fault handling to deal with several special fault classes. We have also designed a consistent interface between the fault detection and handling modules and implemented it in the SHIFT programming language for the speci cation of hybrid systems. The report also describes part of the modeling formalism required for the formal veri cation of safety claims.

Fault-Tolerant Control for Automated Highway Systems

Increasing highway traffic congestion and real estate costs that limit the building of new highways has brought about a renewed interest in an Automated Highway System (AHS) where the vehicle steering task (“lateral control”) and the braking/throttle tasks (“longitudinal control”) are taken over by computers to increase the throughput of existing highways. Since safety plays a key role in the d...

Design of an Active Approach for Detection, Estimation and Short-Circuit Stator Fault Tolerant Control in Induction Motors

Three phase induction motors have many applications in industries. Consequently, detecting and estimating the fault and compensate it in a way that the faulty induction motor satisfies the predefined goals are important issues. One of the most common faults in induction motors is the short circuit of the stator winding. In this paper, an active fault-tolerant control system is designed and pres...

Towards a Fault Tolerant AHS Design Part I: Extended Architecture

We propose a hierarchical control architecture for dealing with faults and adverse environmental conditions on an Automated Highway System (AHS). Our design builds on a previously designed control architecture that works under normal conditions of operation. The faults that are considered in our design are classi ed according to the capabilities remaining on the vehicle or roadside after the fa...

Fault-Tolerant Control of a Nonlinear Process with Input Constraints

A Fault-Tolerant Control (FTC) methodology has been presented for nonlinear processes being imposed by control input constraints. The proposed methodology uses a combination of Feedback Linearization and Model Predictive Control (FLMPC) schemes. The resulting constraints in the transformed process will be dependent on the actual evolving states, making their incorporation in the de...
